Cisco's acquisition of Linksys company in 2003 reflects the developments that have ensued after that very clearly. Cisco's intent back in 2003 was stated well. They wanted to "drive innovations into the consumer market and create next-gen home networking solutions". Linksys being a premier manufacturer and innovator of home routers, home wireless routers, and VPN routers, or virtual private networks routers, was a prime target for Cisco who was already very strong in the business to business
